Since several years, i am tired of statements, statements, agrguements, im tired, of arguements and all disscussions on black metal, rules, laws, do or dont do’s, statements , vereibody and their fukin statements and eternal statements…. freakin tired and back to listen what i like in black metal, no mather its old or new, or if people like it or not, i dont give a damn. More listen, less talk.

Or, you can not be a pacifist and instead confront it. Ignoring is usually why something festers and expands uncontested until it rules. Kinda like trends and hiding from confrontation rules today.

the days have changed now. It looks silly. Maybe a few of the more “tasteful” originators of “corpsepaint” can get away with it, but as a whole-it has lost it’s “edge” (and depending on your opinion-if it ever had an “edge” to it).
Back before the net, perhaps. When information and such was more hard to come by.
Everything seemed much more isolated. It’s hard to come across as “misanthropic” and disdainful of culture when you have 500,000 hits on your myspace page. And still present yourself with corpsepaint, etc. But it’s not just that either. It’s just hard to take so many figures in metal, BM, seriously. On hand they want you to, then on the other, they want to sell shit which runs contrary to their “message”.
Some want to come across as “the everyman” now…like the drummer from Darkthrone.
He is now the connesiuer of 80′s thrash metal when up until a few years ago, never once did he mention ANY of the bands that he now claims to have ALWAYS been influenced by. If he ever did read this-I request him to produce to me any interview prior to 2002 where he ever mentions thrash or punk or anything like that. Now he wants to be “hip” to a new generation-so discard the old, rewrite history and present yourself in a new light. It’s so translucent. Oh well….there will always be poseurs in wolfs clothing….

For the record, Watain are just as campy as Immortal (re: “Wintermoon” video), the difference being they desaturate and hyper-adjust the contrast on their promotional internet pictures.

Personally, I think black metal bands need to lose the gimmicky make-up and props. It was “cool” for a while, but I can’t help but feel like it’s become a seriously stupid thing in recent years. Especially when you plug MySpace into the equation…

Only someone who isn’t confident about their tastes would say that music is subjective. Only elitism and merciless criticism can keep good music above the hordes of mediocrity and utter garbage. If every bleep and bloop was good music, then why would we even need actual music, as its all subjective?

Using the image of black metal (which I’m quite indifferent to) as some kind of musical factor is just dumb, but then again its a way of identification, I would even call it a tradition within the genre. It can be a way of paying tribute to those who came before, or a complete joke and mockery (both of them easily identifiable also through the music). In no case is it mandatory, or a way of identifying quality music.

I hear you about the people taking a, frankly ridiculous, image (ala Immortal) so seriously to the point of idiocy. I suppose Watain and co. don’t camp it up as much but you hit the nail on the head about the lack of faith in BM

i think you’re just burnt because you don’t know how or where to find good underground metal anymore. it’s all around you but you’re too fucking dumb to find it. i think you’re the “weak” one because all you can get yourself to do is keep relistening to the same fucking mayhem album over and over. everyone knows that trendy people are full of shit but in the real world you just ignore it (like you claim people should do but ironically have a website dedicated to discovering the next trend only to make fun of it). keep fingering your own asshole, waste of life.

This is just ridiculous bellyaching of a true black trollmetaller. Just because you dislike something doesn’t make it good or bad. It is just an opinion that nobody should even care about. And the fact is that the more you bitch about something, the more close-minded you become. Especially if you don’t even say what makes particular artist utter crap as your only argument seems to be “it’s not true black metal”… it’s pathetic. There’s no “good and bad music”. There’s only “music you like or not”. Sure, discussion about bands and the quality of their music is welcome, but only when you have something clever to say. Bogon flux – nothing more.

Rory-”Dude”…
did I not say in my post that I am sure there have been a few “good”, “palatable” releases while I have been in Rip Van Winkle mode?
I simply don’t care….
let me elaborate: when I see that people post on youtube that Immortals “Wintermoon” video is joke-that the band meant it as a “joke”-I cringe-
of course it was not meant as a joke-they were playing up that whole “I am evil, I am evil in the woods” image-and it looks stupid. The music is fine, I guess, but the video.
Here is why I lose faith-that so many idiotic BM fans-and Immortal fans in particular-and I imagine they are “kids”
try to defend it as “Immortal” was just kidding around, because they know how ridiculous it looks-and the only way to justify that level of idiocy is to make it a joke.
If thats who I am expected to take advice from about who is good and who is not…
(not saying you-Rory “Dude”) in current BM…
then I will pass…because quite frankly I question the tastes of a majority of people who listen to BM-or metal …
so-again-I am happy with what I have,..hope you are with what you have in your collection
The part of the blog that I felt “kinship” with was-”rediscover old classics that you missed or go back to the ones you love”. That has been my feeling for sometime-for me personally. Speaking of which-I need to get my hands on “Don’t Break The Oath” again…
I think an ex g/f got her hands on it…..
